Chapter Five
A year-long sabbatical in Kuwait produced ample time to stare off into the desert, and consider the next campaign -- and it's characters. The fifth campaign to be run from Kansas begins with a simple premise: the orcs are coming -- by the million. What would happen after that was anyone's guess. Here, then, is the tale of unwilling heroes. (Of course, 3.5 would have to come out while we were all away, in Kuwait. Hrmph.)

Chapter Four
Beginning in August of 2002, Chapter Four is a quest for the fabled artifact Al Mudim. The campaign began in Teras, Rakore -- with an older gentleman from the fabled lands of Al Fahim recruiting mercenaries and adventurers based upon prophecy. Ye'amen al Sharral hired out the party to aid him in searching for the pieces of the ancient artifact Al Mudim. However, Al Mudim has been lost for millennia, and few remember its name -- let alone where all its pieces are, or what it does. Ye'amen tells the party only that it must be found -- and destroyed -- or else dire consequences could befall all the world.

Chapter Three
My brother, Luke, is running the third chapter of Campaign V. He's working off of a Rakoran module I started, but never really finished. Luke's done a good job of running with what he's got, and the story line seems to be doing fairly well. The module is named Mercs, LTD, and I had originally planned for myself, Luke, and Diego to run the module simultaneously, with three different groups in three different locations -- and then find a way to weave the three stories lines together. That didn't pan out, but Luke's keeping the flame going for Mercenaries, Limited.
Chapter Two
Because our dear friend Adam had to deploy to Kuwait for several months, with the rest of his unit, we placed that portion of the campaign on hiatus -- with Mission Ten set to roll when he returns. In the interim, just myself, Ed, Theresa, and Diego would play another chapter of the campaign, and were later joined by Dan and Phil. Ed chose to play Faeradd, a gnomish illusionist on a world where they were extinct, Theresa played Phoenix, an elven druidess in a land that feared elves, and Diego played Sam, a mercenary that had been forcibly bonded with an earth elemental. Dan joined us with Zan, a rogue born of immaculate conception with an air elemental, and Phil added Poy, a young monk who followed the God of Destiny, Brigain. Adam returned, and rather than return to Chapter One, he decided to roll on with his character from Chapter One in the second installment, and we seamlessly integrated the two storylines. Good job, Adam.

Chapter One
Healers. Fighters. Illusionists. It sounds like a list of heroes from a Fantasy novel. In reality, those are our everyday jobs in the United States Army -- as medics, infantry, smoke and mirrors.
The escapism is in the company we keep, and the magic we create, playing Dungeons and Dragons. Campaign V takes place in the heart of America, in the home of Ed and Theresa Shearer (pictured above). Ed and Theresa have graciously opened their home to the campaign, and our escapades have taken in coworkers, the curious, the crazy, and the cute. All of us who participated in these chapters of the fifth campaign thank you two sincerely, from the bottom of our hearts.
The rest of Dan's T-shirt reads: BUT I'VE GOT A BIG DICK.
This campaign would be the first for all of us save Diego, to be run in the new 3rd Edition format. We began with Ed playing Tram, a human bard, Theresa playing Rain, a half-elven fighter, Adam playing Ahira, a dwarven fighter-cleric, and Diego playing P'Arkon, a human
sorcerer. Later, for a brief time, we had Lars join us to play Hone, a human rogue.
