Wands of charging were designed by the mages and sorcerors of Gaeleth's Shaping Wars. These wands essentially saved wizards time and effort in the field, when magical items would consume charges, and either be rendered useless, or be destroyed. The wands could recharge magical items and equipment that used charges. The function of the wands was limited, and after the charges of the wand itself had been used up, the wand tended to become extremely brittle, and shatter. None of these wands of charging could be recharged, themselves, except by the mages from the Shaping Wars.
One interesting point of note, is that such wands were very dangerous. When disjuncted, the wands expended all of their charges as raw magical energy. Anyone within ten feet of the wand received 1d12 points of damage per charge of the wand, with no save. Fully charged wands could easily kill a man if subjected to a disjunction spell. Few wands of charging had more than a dozen charges. A range of two to twelve was common (2d6), though some one in ten of the wands had considerably more (3d10). Next Item from the Items List |
