The SisterWorlds is an overarcing story concept that encompasses a number of fictional worlds. One of the SisterWorlds, Gaeleth, serves as a campaign background for ongoing Dungeons and Dragons adventures. The site contains considerable background, 'fluff', concepts, and ideas that have created for the story backdrop, all contributed by a host of writers and players. The SisterWorlds has been around since 1996, and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Most of the campaigns take place within Gaeleth's nation of Rakore, which was described by one player as 'the America of fantasy worlds' -- a melting pot of ideas and races and concepts, all under a banner of freedoms for the individual. The Gaeleth campaigns in general, and more specifically, the Rakoran campaigns, have caused the creation of several megabytes worth of text, special maps, game modules, and more. As the site is under continual revision, new pieces of fiction and story concepts are being added every week.

Gaeleth has a rich history, stretching back over ten thousand years into recorded time. Classic high fantasy is tempered with traditional scientific and historical research. The players do not often see the background research and preparations that go into their campaigns, yet they play in a world with quite a bit of realism. Contributors have included professional veterinarians, sailors, archaeologists, historians, sociologists, physicists, and more. The campaigns are, in essence, a continually evolving story.

The flash of light lasted almost no time at all, but its shockwave was a visible thing, racing out from the center of the ogran armies as a line of scything death that mowed down all in its path. And behind it, moving almost sedately due to the distance the two were viewing it from, rode the blast wave – a wall of fire that rolled across the battlefield in an ever-expanding circle. It struck one of the hatori – a crocodile-like desert beast nearly a mile long – and burned through even its bones as the circle continued to grow.

Jena could only stare in horror with tears in her eyes at what had been unleashed. Nothing would survive the blast. It was orders of magnitude greater than any arcane fire every produced. And then the first shockwave of sound hit them.
