The Staff of Winds

Quarterstaff +1
Base damage:
  • (S-M) is 1d6+1
  • (L) is 1d6+1
    Base speed of 1d10+3
    Weight is 3.5lbs

If the wielder blows a long blast of air over the head of the staff, and plants the butt of it on the ground, the staff will create a blowing wind in the direction that the caster is facing. The wind is fairly strong and steady, blowing at 34 miles per hour. The wind isn't strong enough to knock a man off his feet, unless he is caught off-guard, although it will slow people travelling against the wind to half their normal movement rate. Behind and to the flanks of the wielder, there is no apparent change in wind. The wind column extends before the wielder some 500 feet, and is close to 100 feet wide. Lifting the butt off the ground stops the wind, and the wielder must once more plant the staff, and blow on its head, to activate it.

The tradiational use for the Staff of Winds has been on sailing vessels, where it was used to help the ship move at its fastest rate of travel.
