The hand-and-a-half sword is a pure ebonite, perforated blade. The perforations vary in size, with the largest being perhaps a quarter-inch wide (1/4"); they are only along the long axis of the blade, not near the cutting edges. The pommel itself is of the raw ore of ebonite. When swung, the sword’s holes create a characteristic sound, exactly like that of a hawk screeching.

The blade was created by Vyrboth in 765 Avard for an apprentice of his, Tellarian Hawke. The blade has a three-tiered enchantment on it; when held in hand, each tier of the enchantment activates a level of sharpness and anticipation in the sword, giving it an effective +3 to hit and damage, above the ebonite's usual +2.
