Shockwave

(Level 3 Evocation Spell)

Range: 15yds + 5yds/level
Duration: Instantaneous
Area of Effect: Special
Components: VSM
Casting Time: 3
Saving Throw: ½

When this spell is cast, it causes a 5 foot wide blast of intense sound to burst from the caster’s hands, causing 1d6 points of damage per level of the spellcaster’s (maximum damage of 11d6) within the 5’ column. A successful saving throws versus physical spells means ½ damage. However, even if a target survives the blast (regardless of its save), it is basically deaf (provided it can hear) for 2d6 turns, and suffers a -1 penalty to all surprise rolls, and a -1 penalty to initiative.

The spell is line-of-sight, and travels in a straight line. The shockwave will destroy metal 1" thick, stone 2" thick, and wood 3" thick, per level of the caster, to a maximum of 1 foot of metal, 2 feet of stone, and 3 feet of wood. There is no chance of reflection, though in an enclosed space, there is a 5% cumulative chance the roof and walls will collapse. In liquids, the blast travels twice as far at ½ power. When making a transition from a liquid to a gas, or a gas to a liquid medium, the spell makes an impressive explosion of vapor, but does little else. The spell causes double damage to liquid-based life-forms, and is ineffective against vapor-based life-forms.

The material components of this spell are the wings of a cricket, and a tiny golden cone (valued at no less than 10gp), all three of which are consumed by the spell.
