Ye'amen's Ring
aka Kithir al Ye'amen

Ye'amen al Sharrad al Arak of Al Fahim had this ring crafted for him by a Brilathe of Brigain.

Ye'amen was the chief librarian, scholar, and scribe for the Sheik of Galanus, in the coastal city of Aboris -- capital of Al Fahim. Though himself a mundane sort of man, Ye'amen had spent nearly four decades as a scribe for the Church of Galanus in Al Fahim, and had seen a great number of tomes and scrolls discerning the nature of arcane magics and prayer-based powers. Surrounded by a wealth of knowledge, Ye'amen began amassing information on the ancient artifact known as Al Mudim -- an artifact of such power that it was reputed to rival the Godslayer, Giran Howel. Ye'amen's curiousity about Al Mudim turned into a passionate hobby, and then a personal quest.

During a fitful night of sleep on the eve of Trivor the 27th, Ye'amen received a vision. In it, the Angel of Watchfulness for Galanus visited the grandfather of sixteen, and spoke to him of a man in gray that would aid him to destroy Al Mudim. The Angel of Watchfulness, Anrielis, showed Ye'amen a likeness of the man in gray -- and Ye'amen was shocked to learn that he was a Brilathe of the God of Destiny, Brigain.

Ye'amen wound up waiting two years before spying the 'man in gray' by coincidence at the bazaar. The Sheik's scribe and the Brilathe both seemed equally shocked to see one another, and quickly moved towards one another -- with friendship, curiousity, and good intentions. The Brilathe's name was Va'anon al Farook al Shikar, and he was in Aboris on vacation after many decades wandering the world on Brigain's bidding. Va'anon had played with Ye'amen in the streets of Aboris when they were both children, and had played at the arts of war and nobility.

After several hours of catching up with one another, they had reestablished their half-century's old friendship. After several tentative and abortive attempts at revealing the more secretive aspects of their past, they finally opened up their hearts to one another without breaking any prior comittments or violating any trusts. It was then that Va'anon became aware of Ye'amen's quest to find Al Mudim.

Va'anon had traveled much of the world, and seen first-hand the devestation The One and his minions had wrought in their quest for Al Mudim, over five-and-a-half millennia before. The agents of Argunas, the Demon God, had also wrought great devestation in their search for Al Mudim. But just what the artifact was, remained unknown. Translating into Al Fahiman as 'of the blood spinners', the powerful artifact remained lost -- perhaps for all time. Va'anon decided, though, that should Ye'amen be successful in his quest to find the artifact, he would need all the help he could get.

After parting ways in a friendly manner with Ye'aman (and incidently arranging for the marriage of two of their grandchilren), Va'anon retreated into the vast Gintala Desert to prepare a gift for Ye'amen.

Va'anon crafted a ring of silver, with long, flowing script that appeared as decorative lines to the untrained eye. Inset in the ring was a fire-opal of extraordinary quality, and Va'anon surrounded the fire-opal with eight very small, perfectly cut diamonds with a faint reddish tinge to them. The Brilathe so infused the ring with prayer-castings that it began to take on some small sentience. As the script flowed around the diamonds and the fire-opal, it glowed once with an inner, reddish fire, and then faded into a dull black finish within the silvery ring.

The Brilathe was at last satisfied with his creation, which he named Kithir al Ye'amen -- Ye'amen's Ring. The ring would flash a pale blue-green in the vicinity of people who might aid Ye'amen in his quest to rid the world of Al Mudim, and one or two diamonds would also turn a pale blue-green, to indicate the direction of whomever might be worthy of destroying Al Mudim.

Va'anon waited until the wedding of his granddaughter and Ye'amen's grandson, to present the chief scribe with his gift. Ye'amen knew then that he had a means of accomplishing his quest, and met Va'anon with a knowing eye. The God of Destiny willed that the quest for Al Mudim begin.

Ye'amen died at the mountain fortress of Shir Amanod, less than a year later, on the 8th of Davor, 1328. Ironically, it was a Brilathe of Brigain that killed him -- deranged by the power of the ArchAngel of Voice, Cu Lethan of Brigain. The insane Brilathe died without ever speaking the Voice that he had fought, unwilling to give Ye'amen a vital clue as to the location of Al Mudim. It was not long after this that Ye'amen's party -- found with the aid of Kithir al Ye'amen -- discovered the Spinstone. The Spinstone, they hoped, would guide them to the maps of Al Mudim.
