Sorcerors

Demon's blood.
Dragon's blood.

A sorceror derives his power from himself; all the of the magical energies that he casts, comes from within. Like a muscle, however, these energies require flexing and hard work, to develop. The magical blood that floes through a sorceror's veins gives him strengths -- and weaknesses -- unlike those of any other. Wizards specialize in studying the arcane energies, and harnessing, and their discipline has carried over to the sorcerors, giving them the necessary focus for flexing and working their own, internal energies.

Most sorcerors derive their power from demonic blood, dating back to the Demon Wars during the Age of Survival, after the initial Prizm Wars -- nearly 8,000 years ago. Demon blood is tricky, and rarely breeds true, showing up in one generation, and then disappearing for five generations or more. Many times, the sorcerous powers only manifest after a particularly traumatic experience, or even during adolescence. Unpredictable as the demon blood is, it often sews chaos in the lives of those it manifests in.

It is important to note that many structures built during the first hundred years of the Inquisition were warded against demons and demon-spawn. Demons were particularly aggressive during the Storm Wars, coupled with the knowledge that sorcerors utilized their demon blood for magic, prompted the various churches to heavily ward themselves. The city gates to Karmen, for example, are still so warded that they would kill a small army of major demons, should they attempt entry. A sorceror with demon's blood attempting to enter the city through those gates would be vaporized.

Some few sorcerors derive their power from draconic blood. Some dragons shape-shift into mortal forms, and sire or give birth to half-breeds. The dragon blood is particularly strong, and breeds true from generation to generation. The sorcerous abilities of a child often show even inside the womb.

The Inquisition's First and Second Crusades supposedly wiped out the last of the dragons, though finding the dragon-blooded sorcerors proved more difficult. Because the parents often know who and what they are, the children were often hidden, and raised with full awareness of their powers. The Inquisition's elite Seekers took many of the dragon-slaying weapons of the First and Second Crusades, and applied them to finding those of the dragon blood. They were rather adept at finding some blood-lines, but others proved more elusive. Though dragon-blooded sorcerors are still far more rare than demon-blooded sorcerors, they seem to be the most prevalent because of the inherant fostering power of having parents with the same gift. Many demon-blooded sorcerors also pass themselves off as dragon-blooded, because of the stigma of demons.
