Seeker of Truth
"Lemme write that down."
Played by Ian McCord

Current Status: Summer, 1331 Avard. With the theft of many valuable texts from Lok Magius, and the destruction of many more texts, Rell has begun a personal campaign to rebuild the library in Agincoth's name. Promoted to vicar by the Disciple of Agincoth, Genecelot, Rell constantly travels the lands, both within Rakore and without. His bodyguard and Shadow Guardian Kaisumi is often within the shadows nearby. Rell will pay handsomely for texts, scrolls, and good information on where they may be found. He and Kaisumi work out of Lok Magius when not traveling, and they have staunch allies in their task of rebuilding the library, the mages Norion and Savana.

Possessions: Rell wears a mithril shirt that was crafted for him at Lok Giran by Gawain Rubynose as a joint collaboration between the priests of Galgiran and Agincoth. The mithril shirt is made of tiny mithril links that were each crafted on a holy forge of Galgiran, and quenched in water holy to Agincoth. A set of links within the mithril shirt are made of silver, but are inscribed with arcane runes and holy glyphs in tiny relief, making them as strong as the mithril. The silver links form the holy symbol of Agincoth -- a superimposement of the arcane glyphs for 'knowledge' and 'magic'. This holy mithril shirt also counts as a holy symbol of Agincoth, worn openly and yet subtly. About his neck, Rell also wears a small silver medallion with the inscription of an elven hand upon it; this item acts as a hand of the mage. He has a number of mithril beads and pearls linked together as a bracelet about his wrist, granting him a number of orisons and cantrips when activated with the arcane speech: pearl of power level 1, bead of bless, bead of comprehend languages, bead of detect magic, bead of detect poison, bead of detect secret doors, bead of detect undead, bead of mending, bead of message, bead of presidigitation, bead of purify food and water, bead of obscuring mist, bead of shield, bead of shield of the faith, large bead of arcane mark. The remainder of his equipment is usually stored in his Heward's handy haversack, which has a rod strapped into it with continual light permanently blazing in silver light from the rod's spherical head. Rell also has a number of wands and scrolls in his belt. His signet ring is that of the vitruvian man -- as is his arcane mark. He also wears a silver dagger.
Spells: 5/4+1/3+1. Knowledge, Magic, and Travel Domains. Casts all Divination spells at +1 caster level. Favored spells: summoning icy elementals, fear-causing effects.

Appearance: Rell is a short young man in his mid-twenties, with a slight build, and a completely bald head. His icy blue eyes are those of a young man, and blaze with intelligence and cunning. He wears black leathers, and the buckles of his boots and belts are of silver. Over this he wears chainmail of purest silver and mithril, and over that is a combination cloaked hood and heavy mantle, trimmed in light silver fur. On his belt is a silver dagger in its sheath, and he appears otherwise unarmed.

Background:  (from the player's own notes)
Orphaned as an infant on the steps leading to the Tome of Knowledge, the largest temple to Lul in the Empire of Vridara during the year 1304 Avard. Rell was indoctrinated with the theology of Lul, the god of merchants. Born with both a keen mind and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, he excelled in all of his studies. Even at an early age he had a knack for the arcane. As the study of the arcane is considered publicly to be taboo, Rellís patron fearing the wandering tongue of a child, intensified his studies in all other areas as a means to control Rells access to the arcane. By the age of twelve, Rell had consumed most of the smaller Covenents with in the area. He was then assigned as an assistant to the largest Covenant of the church. In addition to these duties he was also apprenticed to some of the most powerful priest of Lul in the kingdom, with the hopes that his great mind and incredible linguistic skills would further benefit the church. After three years of rigorous training and his complete inability to perform even the smallest acts of priestly magic, he was informed that the path as a priest of Lul was not for him. However, his patron had arranged for Rell to studying at the Stars End monastery in the newly founded Kingdom of Rakore. The journey to over six months due to the distance and large amount of changes accruing in the world and his arrival at the monastery went largely unnoticed. After half a year of studying and intermingling with the monks of Samis, Rell knew that this also was not his religion. Questioning his faith and the faith of others, he began to study the pantheon of god both old and new for a god that his ideals. After a time he discovered that there was only one, the dead goddess of knowledge, Agincoth. Despite the common belief that she was slain at the hands of Lul, Rell did not accept it as the truth. He believed that there would have been much more information at the Tome of Knowledge had the rumors been completely true. So he dedicated himself to the goddess of Knowledge on that day and entered the most intensive prayer study cycle of his life. Day in and day out, before sunup and long after sundown he prayed over and consumed every book, scroll, and tome that he could lay his hands on. This cycle consumed him for two years to the date, when a failing candle began to glow with a soft silver light so that he could continue his studies. From that single blessing, he knew that his goddess was truly still alive and wished for him to bring her more knowledge of the world around him. Using Stars End as a base of operations, he began to explore the Kingdom of Rakore. He traveled the surrounding area while study all things with in his sights. He began to compose a holy text in a blank spell book offered to him in trade for a thesis on magical animals and their uses in the arcane of the past. As he grew in his priestly abilities he would write down the lessons he learned within the spell book using what ever language the lesson had come to him in. Over the next six years he traveled the length and width of Rakore, finally settling down at Lok Magius to continue his studies. It was during this time that he learned how to enchant items with priestly magic. He traveled back and forth from Lok Magius and Lok Giran having the dwarves craft special masterful items for his enchantment. He even spent a considerable amount of time with the dwarves during the forging of his mithril chain shirt. While he was deep in study of the arcane his interest was peeked by a passing mention of the lost city of Tymarell. Unable to find any more information other than it general location, Rell decided to travel there and see what wonders he could find.

Roleplaying Notes: Rell lives only to gather knowledge out of love for his goddess, and out of the sheer hunger to know more. His ascetic teachings, his humble nature, and his love of Agincoth keep his voracious mind in check, but only just. He gets irritable and even angry when knowledge is deliberately kept from him. And for all his knowledge and wit, he still has trouble dealing with people, having not quite grasped the finer intricasies or experience of body language, tone, and social situations.
