The Halflings of Gaeleth

Halflings of Gaeleth

The halflings of Gaeleth are the most secretive creatures on the face of the planet. Even devoted scholars of Lul swear that the last halfling was wiped out during the Shaping Wars, over five millennia in the past. Whatever the original reason for their near extinction, the halflings have continued on in hiding since that calamatous time.

Though only four major communities remain, many other halflings are hidden throughout Gaeleth in smaller communities. Perhaps the most visible halflings are those of the Alekdan Principalities. Caught and enslaved, not even the halfling communities have the resources necessary to free all of those within the Pirate Princes' clutches. Adventuring halflings are rare, and with good reason. Their inherent magic and smaller numbers makes them a better target for the Inquisition than the elves were. Indeed, one warren closer to Karmen was obliterated by Seekers in 1189 Avard. The churches apparently swept the incident under the carpet, labelling them as 'shamanistic goblins' making use of forbidden illusions.

Though hiding and combat magic does run strong in the halfling race, they are more prone to be warriors and hunters than anything else.

Perhaps the most important note is the community of Havlinsblas, on Seabrum Island. Though cold even in the summer, it is the only truly free city-state of the halflings. Most halflings long to make a journey at least once to the great cities of Havlinsblas, which sports an all-halfling mage school, monastery, and more. It is even rumored among the halfling scholars that one of the old Gates has been reactivated, and that halflings from the other Sister Worlds are visiting their brethren, and learning of their plight.
