Recap
The morning of the 15 Davor 1329 Avard, Fort Erion in Southern Galanath: The dwarf mercenary, Jacob Swiftaxecleaver, is drinking in the Dead Eye tavern. He notices a job request posted on the board. It details a plea from the Farmers’ Guild to rid the outlining farms of a band of rogue goblins that has been harassing the area for about 3 weeks. Point of contact was Jamison, vice president of the guild. A small band, a ranger passing through estimated it contained 6-8 individuals, were stealing from farmers in a 3 mile stretch on the edge of the newly cleared forest. The creatures attacked at dusk and stole coins and food stuff before melting back into the woods. They have successfully avoided the patrol sent out by the garrison commander, so the guild had posted the wanted sheet. Jacob headed back up to the Fort to tell his traveling companion, Horus, cleric of Rahne. The dwarf did not notice the small shadow that followed him out. Across the small town, a lovely elven bard had entered the tavern called Rahne’s Rest. She charmed a new lieutenant from Kalla and learned of the goblin trouble as well as a few other problems that have been bothering the people of the frontier fort. Hearing of the news of the goblin band, she left to see the posting in the Dead Eye tavern. She arrived after Jacob had left with the posting; she questioned Thomas only to find out the dwarf was a mercenary with the symbol of Rahne on his shield and had headed up to the Fort. She quickly followed. Jacob hurried though the gates of the Fort with out noticing his shadow. One very perceptive guard noticed the dwarf was being followed by what appeared to be a small child, but let them both go. Inside the Fort, Jacob headed straight to the Temple of Rahne to tell his friend about the fun he had found. Horus was at his daily prayers with what appeared to be a young man. Jacob was boisterous with his excitement to go squish some orcs. When it was pointed out that the flier described goblins he retorted with, “Ors, goblins?! They are both evil creatures I want to squish.” The young man introduced himself as a monk of Rahne called Ki Chin. He offered to join them to destroy the goblins and the two accepted him readily. The three and their unnoticed shadow headed out. They were greeted by a young elven bard. She asked if they had heard of the band of goblins. Jacob responded they were off to kill the orcs. Again, his fellows pointed out they were after goblins, not orcs. The dwarf huffed that there was not much difference between the two. A small voice from behind said, “Goblins have shiny stuff and orcs do not.” Horus hearing this turned around and grabbed up a small figure that was behind him. Holding up the squirming individual to inspect, they discovered this was no child as he first appeared to be. The small man introduced him as Gemini Swiftfeet and that he was 23. Once put back down, he returned the cleric’s money pouch. The bard asked to join the party to hunt down the goblins. They agreed to let her come and all except Gemini went into the main building of the Fort to get food before heading out. The party was attacked by a feral dog not too far out of town and had little trouble dispatching the creature. Ki and Jacob got holes in their clothes, but the party was unharmed. A few hours travel brought the group to the first farmstead. Not too far from the main road, they came across tracks of a group of small humanoids leaving the forest and entering the field of ripening wheat. They figured they had discovered the goblins and entered the wheat, following the trail. Gemini led the band, followed closely by Ki and Jacob with the bard and Horus bringing up the rear. The young Halfling noticed the wheat moving on their flanks and warned Ki just before the goblins popped up out of the wheat, surrounding the party. Javelins flew through the air to injure the monk and cleric. Gemini returned fire while the bard launched into song. The rest charged the goblins as the creatures charged in return. Horus proved well adapt at killing goblins, slaying about half their numbers and earning him the title “Goblin Slayer”. The fight only lasted a couple more rounds before only the party members were left standing. A search of the bodies came up with nothing of value. The tired and slightly wounded party then traveled to the closest farm house to rest. They reached the farm of Simon, but were denied entry by the wife due to their bloody condition. Horus was able to talk to her and put her fears to rest. She welcomed the party into her house and settled them all around the fire while she roused her husband. Simon and his wife were thankful to the party, but could only reward them with shelter for the night and food in the morning. Water was supplied and the party washed up, checked gear and wounds and settled down to sleep. The bard decided to sleep naked and Simon’s wife was none to pleased. Ki woke her from her reverie to get dress so to not offend their hosts. After the party had washed up again and Simon and his sons had returned from morning chores, all broke their fast.
16 Davor, Simon’s Farm The party led Simon and his sons to the site of the battle to help them clear out the bodies. Since the party did not want the goblins wretched weapons, he claimed them for his own and they piled the bodies to be burned later that day. Gemini and Ki searched out and found the trail of the goblins leading back into the woods and decided to check to make sure all the creatures were destroyed. They encountered a skeletal wolf, a left over of the War of the Undead that was rebuked by Horus and slunk back off into the woods. Not too much father along Gemini was mocked by a voice out of the trees for his clumsy attempt to move quietly. The party searched around for the speaker, but could not find it. They did not feel threatened by the speaker but wanted to see who the speaker was. The speaker continued to taunt them a bit and throw cat-calls at the bard. The elf asked the speaker to show himself and a satyr stepped out from the bushes. He flirted a bit with the bard, and told the party that he knew of the goblins since they had been around for a bit. He did not know where they were presently or where their camp was, but suspected the little monsters were in the area since they seemed to come back around with some regularity. All the party except for the bard decided to press on. They party spied a brown bear before reaching the camp, but both left the others alone. The goblins camp was empty and set up only been occupied for a day or two. The searching around the party found 20 gold pieces. Returning back down the trail, they discovered the bard tied up and naked, her clothes and gear seeming untouched. She had no memory of what happened. Ki freed her and they continued back to Fort Erion unmolested. Finding Jamison in the guildhall, they reported all that happened. Jamison gave them five more gold pieces and promised to spread the word of their accomplishments through the Fort.
So ends afternoon of the 16th of Davor, 1329.

DM's Notes The guys’ role played and interacted well with each other. They quickly worked out an order of march and battle plan that went very well. SGT Leavitt’s cleric did wonders killing the goblins. He took out most of the group. PFC Lott’s bard injured one, SGT Rogers’ monk finally, almost completely collapsed the chest of one that ran off, but died the next round, and SGT Leavitt’s fighter squished the last one. PFC Lott set himself as a good lesson for getting separated from the party. I was nice to him since the satyr wasn’t there to harm the party, he was just a random encounter, and took inspiration from Fred’s sorcerer that was found tied up and naked a couple of times. After his bard was freed, she expressed a great interest in staying close to the party after that. We all had fun and next time will meet up in the local MWR since SGT Rogers loaded the core rule books in Word onto SGT Leavitt’s lap top, so I don’t have to have an internet connection to access rule books I don’t have with me. We also used Halo miniatures and map to play out the fight scenes. It was a hoot. |
