They were originally designed during the Sister Worlds War, and proved quite effective. The knowledge was passed on through the millennia on Gaeleth, though the knowledge of how to make them was lost on the other Sister Worlds. Gaeleth employed the mines with great effectiveness during its Storm Wars, but the Cleansings of sorcerors that followed the Storm Wars very nearly wiped out all knowledge of the mines.
A Rikel mine is sensitive to magic; any magic cast directly on one, or within thirty feet of one, activates the internal spell-bank of the mine. When the mine goes off, a Mordenkainen's disjunction spell initializes, sweeping over magical items within thirty feet. The real danger of Rikel mines was in the accumulation of more than one mine in an area; the effects of one mine would set off the effects of another, if it were within thirty feet. Well planted or hidden mines could rob whole armies of magical protection and items.
The mines are well-hidden from scrying, and do not detonate when scried from a distance, or spied upon with distance-seeing spells. Because of the nature of the mines, they are well cloaked from such spells. If a mine is scried, somehow, then the mine has the potential to detonate, destroying whatever magical spell or device was used to scry upon the mine with.
Next Item from the Items List

| Main | Links | Updates | Downloads | DnD | Bio | Pics | Fiction | Khavik |
